A demonstration of the laboratory scanner 3 Shape D750 and 3D printer Rapid Shape D30, bought within the project, was made on the second day of the seminar in the laboratory “3D technologies in Dentistry”. Bridge constructions were printed on two printing machines, working on the principle of stereolithography but with different light source – laser and LED. The accuracy and the properties of the constructions were compared.

The event was met with a great interest. 124 participants were registered for both of the days – students, assistant teachers, habilitated persons, representatives of dental technician laboratories. The most interested were the students, followed by the assistant teachers. Of course, the most of the participants were from the Medical University – Varna. The proof of the success of the event is the interest , shown by the colleagues from Technical University – Varna, dental technician laboratories and computer companies from the city.

POSSIBILITIES AND WORK WITH 3D PRINTER AND SCANNER

TRAINING-SEMINAR

Training-seminar “Possibilities and work with 3D printer and scanner” was organized between 14-16th of October in the Faculty of Dental Medicine. The event is a part of the project „3D printing and its implementation in the contemporary prosthetic treatment plan” with the financial support of the Fund for Scientific Investigations, Ministry of Education and Science.

Four members of the project team have participated in it – the specialists of Prosthetic Dentistry, dr Dzhendo Dzhendov and dr. Iveta Katreva, and the dental technicians – Svetlana Angelova and Diana Pavlova. The training process was transmitted remotely to the seminary hall for all visitors who were interested to watch. A lot of the teachers and the students of the Dental Faculty and the Medical College were interested in the new apparatus. They had the opportunity to watch in real time the working process of the 3D scanner and printer, presented by experienced specialists.

The equipment, which is bought with the support of the project and according to the terms of the Public Procurement Law, includes three-dimensional scanner 3Shape and 3D printer Rapid Shape D30. The scanner’s software is able to generate various virtual dental constructions – single caps, full-contour crowns, bridges, gingival masks, inlays, onlays, veneers, temporary constructions, virtual diagnostic casts, telescopic crowns, custom trays, protectors. All of the mentioned above objects can be manufactured by the 3D printer from the corresponding material – light curing resins.

The 3D scanner and the printer are a CAD-CAM system which works on the principle of layered structuring of objects upon 3D virtual models. The additive technologies occur in the middle of 80’s , provoke a great interest and are expected to be widely implemented in dental medicine as they make possible to fabricate complex customized constructions with high preciseness in short terms. This new technology will be included in the curriculum of students of specialties dental medicine and dental technician during the second semester of 2015-2016 academic year under the form of demonstrations.
